misleading status message from Chicago Indian Consulate for passport renewal
Myself and my two friends sent the passports for renewal to Chicago Indian Consulate on Jan, 2011. I sent to mails to get the status after 30days of my application. They didn't response. I had to call them when 40days over. The person who received the call said " Your passport was sent on 1st week of Feb and the passport returned to our office as you were not there". When I asked for USPS tracking number that guy changed his mind and told " Give your number I will call you back".
My friends also got exact same status message(return of passport). But they didn;t ask for tracking number. So the consulate guy told them to send extra $20 for shipping charge.
It seems all renewal passports return to consulate office and everyone needs to call and pay extra $20 to get the passport.
Hope you now understand why the Chicago Indian consulate phone is so busy.
